Significance of the Muladhara Chakra
Muladhara Chakra or the Root Chakra forms the basis of the human body. It is the very fundamental Chakra, focussing on the development of the physical, emotional, and mental structure of the body.
Just like the Human Body is nothing but a mass of soil clumps, the Muladhara Chakra is the repository of all supernatural and basic energies.
In other words, it has all the energy that one needs to progress in life. The Muladhara Chakra literally means- Mula-root and adhara- Basis. So, the Muladhara Chakra focuses on the Lower regions of our body.
Relation between the Human Body and the Chakra
Energy is our subtle aspect, an unperceivable aspect of ourselves. Similarly, the mind and soul are subtler attributes of ourselves. But, they cannot be directly altered or managed by us.
The only bait we have in our control or perception is our body. In simple terms, the human body is the grossest manifestation. It can become an instrument to reveal our original self.
Through the aid of the body, we can tap into our subtler, true selves. Through the body, we can manage and alter the constitutions of our thought and emotion world.
We can become capable of channelizing our energies, mind, and power by controlling the body. Now, the Muladhara Chakra is a chakra that focuses on the body. In fact, it is a chakra that connects the physical body and the mind. So, if we balance our body, naturally our mind shall become more stable.
Moreover, to balance our bodies, we must balance our Muladhara Chakra.
Earth Element and Muladhara Chakra
To balance our body we must delve into its most fundamental element.
Just like the seed of a plant must be healthy so that it grows into a plant and then a tree, our bodies can stay healthy if its fundamental element is in harmony.
Let’s understand this concept.
Our body is an amalgamation of the food we eat. Foodgrains are associated with the earth element. When we eat food, we nourish our bodies.
We develop ourselves on the physical platform. However, food does have an impact on our minds also. So, when food converts itself into energy and impacts the mind and our subtle structure, it has an impact on the Muladhara Chakra.
In other words, Earth is a gross representation of the Muladhara Chakra. The Muladhara chakra is the basis of our subtle existence just like the earth element is the basis of our physical body.
So, the Earth element is closely associated with the Muladhara Chakra. Earth is soil while the Muladhara Chakra is the Beeja Chakra that initiates the flow of energy.
It is the basis of all human development possible both at the physical and subtle levels. A weak Muladhara chakra has a negative impact on the body while a strong one has a positive impact.

Relation between the Mind and the Root Chakra
Now, let us see the relationship between the Muladhara Chakra and the Mind.
The mind is subtle, as it is beyond perception. However, it is primitive as it houses lower feelings, emotions, and instincts, coinciding with that of animals.
If we eradicate these lower feelings, our mind becomes advanced in the truest sense. Humans differ from animals based on the evolution of their intelligence. But, if human beings have not evolved spiritually, they become like 2 legged animals.
Let us take fear for example!
The instinct of ‘fear of survival’ is what keeps us working and applying for newer jobs. The same fear translates in animals as the defense mechanism.
Now, we have sophisticated mechanisms of defending, probably through our decorated words and manipulative actions. However, animals defend themselves through uncouth means.
But, the basis of these actions is the same. Only the expression differs. From this, we come to know that both humans and animals have fear of survival, which is a primitive instinct, a very fundamental emotion.
The human mind and body are meant for higher purposes. We lose our vitality when engaging in instinctual actions. So, to uplift our consciousness from such petty emotions we must activate our Muladhara Chakra.
The Muladhara Chakra activation leads to victory over emotions like insecurities, fears, compulsions, and instincts.
The intense, untamed desire for sex, food, obsessions, fears, compulsions, etc can be managed by simply focussing and working towards uplifting the Muladhara.
In other words, Muladhara Chakra channelizes and reforms primitive instincts and feelings and aims at uplifting human consciousness.

How to Strengthen Muladhara Chakra
We saw the importance of the Muladhara Chakra for a healthy mind and body. So, let us look at how to strengthen the Muladhara Chakra through natural practices.
1. Consume Root Vegetables and Satvik Food
Root vegetables are great sources of fiber and they are antioxidants. Naturally, they flush out toxins from the body, thereby removing grossness from the body and keeping it healthy.
The Muladhara Chakra becomes stronger with you focussing on the diet. Avoid stale food as it shall slow your internal digestive processes.
On the other hand, keep your digestive tracts clean and healthy. So, the Benefits of Root Vegetables are incredible, from both, material as well as a spiritual standpoint.
A healthy gut is a key to a healthy mind! This is an experiential fact. So, consume beets, carrots, cabbage, radishes, beans, soy, etc. Personally, I would recommend that you should completely avoid a non-vegetarian diet, including eggs, onion and garlic. A Sattvik diet is extremely necessary to see some results.
Non-veg, Onions and Garlic are considered Tamasik as it is stale and the cooking process is unhealthy.
Therefore, to activate Muladhara, you must subsist on the Sattvic Diet.
2. Walk Barefoot on Grass or Smooth Soil
This is a helpful mechanism to boost your Muladhara Energy.
The body, when coming in contact with its fundamental elements, gains energy to stay grounded. When the feet come in contact with the soil, the body regains its originality.
The earth attracts our bodily energies and infuses it with balancing forces. Hence, it keeps us grounded. If you follow this method, you shall see your negative and compulsive emotions evaporate.
The more we associate with our root, our core of existence, the better it is. Modern life has snatched away from us these possibilities. Hence, there is an increased risk of depression, loneliness, and insecurity.
However, if you follow this practice, you shall gain mental balance. We should never forget our basis of existence as this body is a gift of nature.
3. Yoga Asanas and Mudras
Daily practice Yoga asanas that expand and contract your lower muscles of the body. These shall be special asanas that focus on the lower abdominal regions, near the spine, and anal region.
The Muladhara Chakra rests on the base of the spine and hence, exercises that stretch the spinal muscles in your lower region can benefit you.
Muladhara Chakra activation has Special Yogic Asanas and Mudras that relax your muscles and thereby dissolves all blockages that may be indicators of future diseases.
As your muscles stretch, your body and mind shall become peaceful. All these techniques, tips, and methods shall prevent restlessness, anxiousness, and behavioral disorders.
4. Please Lord Ganesh: Mantras and Puja
The Presiding deity of Muladhara Chakra is Lord Ganesha and its symbolic color is red.
You will be astonished to see that the Ganesh Puja Vidhi has all the necessary items to activate the Muladhara Chakra.
Red flowers used in Ganesh Puja, are a symbolic representation of the Muladhara Chakra. When we offer red flowers to Lord Ganesha we are invoking the Lord to activate it.
The incense sticks, oils, etc also promote chakra awakening as it enables a positive frame of mind.
Also, Chanting Ganesha Mantra can become an effective way of pleasing the deity of the Muladhara Chakra.
5. Soothing Music
Always avoid hearing metal, rock, and other types of heavy music as they have a debilitating impact on the mind, mood, and physical body over the long run.
Though people might seem comfortable with heavy metal, over the years, depression takes over.
This is because erroneous musical beats have a negative impact on the Chakra, compelling it to go out of balance. On the other hand, hearing calm music, preferably instruments, has a long-lasting positive impact.
Indian ragas, bhajans, and mantras are always preferred over other unpleasant music and instruments. Ensure you always choose the right music for yourself from today!
