Brief Introduction to Swadhisthana Chakra
The Swadhisthana Chakra is also known as the Sacral Chakra. It exists 3 inches below the navel, situated behind the genitals. One can visualize the Chakra as an ochre-colored, 6 petalled Lotus. The chakra rotates in the clockwise direction.
The Chakra activates itself through passion and creativity, which governs our life.
Creativity and Sexuality
When there is balance in the chakra, it gives us the drive to do positive work and keeps us in a high mood. The Sacral Chakra also governs our sexuality and sexual habits.
When we energize this, it generates lots of creative ideas, for our welfare as well as society’s welfare. One should note that it is the sexual energy that converts into creativity.
Symptoms of Imbalanced Swadhisthana Chakra
A balance of all 7 chakras is essential for a fulfilling life. However, the Swadhisthana Chakra (also known as Sacral Chakra) affects our mental makeup deeply.
It is related to sexual thoughts, energy, and much more as we will discuss, further in this blog post.
A person whose Swadhisthana Chakra is not in balance wastes his sexual energy by unnecessary sex indulgence. When we lose sexual energy, our intelligence becomes blunt and our decisions go in a negative direction.
It hampers our understanding capability severely. This is because the Swadhisthana Chakra is weak. A person with a very weak Swadhisthana Chakra is prone to drugs, smoking, or alcohol.
His character is questionable and he never keeps up his word. Such a person has no consideration for Truth or lies and never keeps up to his commitments.
A weak Swadhisthana Chakra also creates skin-related diseases. Such a person is over-obsessed with sexual thoughts and lost in sexual fantasies.
Swadhisthana Chakra and Hobbies
In order to be free from sexual habits and to be free from addictions, one has to work on the Swadhisthana Chakra. It is important for a person to identify his area of work or identify one’s life’s passion. Such a passion is not the routine work, one is used to. It is a work that is close to one’s soul.
It is possible that one is attracted to wildlife photography. But due to the grind of everyday life, one never gets an opportunity to engage with that activity and one continues with one’s repetitive routine.
On the subconscious plane, it builds pressure. To release that building pressure, one engages in sexual habits. Such a problem is common.
Alternately, the person should identify his deep hobbies and consciously take steps towards fulfilling those desires. A person interested in wildlife photography should consciously work towards taking a few days off every year and engage in the positive action of photography.
Such action shall release pressure in the positive direction and the person tries to find more time, next year to further his passion. This will automatically strengthen the Swadhisthana Chakra.
Follow Your Passion
It has been proved by the researchers of Yoga, that when a person does not give time for his positive hobbies, it damages the Sacral Chakra. The damaged Chakra prompts the person to take up a destructive path in the long run.
The Swadhisthana Chakra is also a center of liberation, available through freeing actions. Whenever one does an activity without expectations, that is a freeing action. For a common man, hobbies are freeing actions.
Hence, to keep the Swadhisthana Chakra balanced, one has to engage in hobbies or any activity that derives happiness from the soul, free of all external and internal pressures.
Signs of a Weak Swadhisthana Chakra
A person whose Swadhisthana Chakra is weak is always grumpy and sad. The consciousness of a person whose Swadhisthana Chakra is weak is dormant. A person with a weak Swadhisthana Chakra also overindulges in eating. His eating habits are unhealthy.

Why is it difficult to follow Hobbies?
Many people find it difficult to engage even with hobbies.
A person may have a certain positive hobby. But when he tries to engage in that hobby, he may suddenly lose interest and he has no energy left within him, to engage in a positive hobby.
This is because the Sacral Chakra is very weak and does not have energy.
So it is important for the individual to draw inner energies and activate the Swadhisthana Chakra. But, there are spiritual solutions for becoming creative. Only after sufficient activation of Swadhisthana Chakra, can a person engage with hobbies even.
Techniques to Energize Swadhisthana Chakra
There are fundamentally two ways of activating the Swadhisthana Chakra.
The first process is the Yogic process of Moolbandha. The second process is Yogic meditation on the Sacral Chakra.
1. Process of Moolbandha
The Moolbandha Process is a powerful Yogic technique, strengthening the Muladhara or Root Chakra as well as the Sacral Chakra.
Through this, one can draw the Kundalini energy dormant below the spine and use it to activate the Swadhisthana Chakra. One has to first sit in Padmasana, Sukhasana or Ardha-Padmasana.
One can also sit casually with folded legs on a Yogic mat laid on the ground. First breathe normally, a few times with total concentration on the breath. As the body relaxes, one should firmly hold one’s heels pressing the stomach.
When the heels press the stomach, one should exhale all air from the lungs and contract the stomach and ensure that the lungs and stomach have ejected out all air.
One should then look down with the chin sticking to the chest. At this time, one should take one’s genitals backward with all force. As one does this, one should also take the anus inward or upward in total contraction. One should then focus on the energy below the spine and put force on the contracting anus and stomach, in such a way that energy directs itself upward towards the head.
Then one should raise one’s chin, relax the anus, genitals, stomach, and breathe in.
After a few seconds of relaxed breathing, one should again hold the Moolbandha.
Ideal period for practicing Moolabandha
A total of 21 times of Moolabandha every day, for a period of 21 days, shall energize the Swadhisthana . One starts feeling extremely positive and shall have enough energies to take up hobbies and do freeing activities.
This shall also strengthen the Swadhisthana Chakra further. One’s sexual thoughts stop automatically.
2. Process of Creative Visualization
Creative Visualization is an extremely powerful process to activate any Chakra. Every Chakra has a Devata, a color, an element, a Yantra, or a Symbol and a Seed Syllable.
The Devata for the Swadhisthana Chakra is Lord Narayana who is lying in the sweet water ocean which represents the Chakra.
The Symbol is the 6 petalled Lotus with ochre color. The element of Swadhisthana Chakra is water.
3. Chanting
The seed syllable of Swadhisthana Chakra is “Vam” (वं).
One can perform this simple meditation technique of Creative Visualization (described above), along with chanting the beeja every day for at least 21 days, to see spectacular results. Sit comfortably with loose clothes on a chair or in Sukhasana on a Yoga mat.
Gently close your eyes and focus on your breathing. As you breathe softly, slowly move your focus three inches below your navel behind your genitals.
You should then clearly visualize the ochre color six-petalled Lotus glowing with brilliance.
Visualize Lord Narayana lying on Sheshanaga inside the Lotus petal in the ocean of sweet water.
For a few breaths trying to visualize this image carefully. Then draw your breath inward and as you exhale, chant “Vam” with a deep voice as if the sound vibrations are hitting the sacral chakra.
As you inhale remain quiet and exhale with “Vam” in a deep voice. As you exhale, visualize that the Sacral Chakra with six Lotus petals is moving in the clockwise direction, for a man standing in front of you and observing you. Practice the chanting of Vam slowly and steadily, 21 times.
Visualize that the chakra is rotating with renewed speed every time you chant the mantra. Also, visualize that it is the power of Lord Narayana which is behind the activation of the Chakra.
Doing this technique, consistently for 21 days shall derive incredible results.
