Individual Experience: 3 Elements Yoga Vasistha

INDIVIDUAL

The 3 Main Elements

The Yoga Vasistha educates the knower on a direct perceptive platform.

It discusses the 3 elements involved in an observation process.

They are:

  1. Observer,
  2. Observed,
  3. The process of observation.

Yoga Vasistha presupposes a direct connection of conscious unity existing through and through these three frames of reference. Unless one admits the universal spirit of Reality, existing at all places universally, the perception of objects cannot be adequately explained.

It is to be understood that the relationship between two entities is not possible unless there exists a connecting entity. The connectin entity shall, however, wholly be independent of the connected dual entities.

INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE

Yoga Vasistha is that book of science that performs a subtle analysis on the fact that it is the universal consciousness that is wholly independent.

It explains in detail that the independent entity is the universal frame of reference and is the very substrate for all connected entities.

The nature of the world wholly depends on the “experienced” world of individuals, who possess their individual minds.

Individual Experience: The Universal Mind

Now, there is a universal component. This universal component is free of individuals and their minds.

It is the individual mind that runs through, connecting all individuals or conscious entities, so that they experience their own relative worlds. However, there is a common substrate among all the individual entities.

That is the universal base of all individual experiences. It is the Cosmic Self also called Brahman (ब्रह्म).

THOUSAND EYES

Thus there exist:

1. Objective worlds of creation, the living entities, and their individual minds that lie within the cosmic being, Brahman.

and then there is the..

2. Subjective Creator, the Brahman that is Consciousness Itself. Though it contains all the individuals in itself it is apart from the individual creation.

Individual Experience: Experience is not Reality

Space and Time do not have any absolute meaning. They are mere experiences of the individual minds. They exist relative to the individual’s perceptive contents.

When someone talks about one’s experience of America, the narrator is just relaying his individual experience. He narrates his experience in a so-called place that is only in his field of experience.

On the other hand, the listener imagines the existence of that place within “his” mind. The listener tries imagining the concept of the place which exists in the mind of the narrator.

ABSTRACT: UNDEFINED EXPERIENCE

Thus there exists a projected “individual” experience of place ( as spoken of by the narrator), which is “assumed” (imagination of the listener), to be factual.

However, at the time of discussion, the place within, the minds of the narrator and listener, are simply the projection of an individual experience. Though they speak of a commonplace, their experiences are different.

Their perceptions differ from one another, because of the presence of individual minds. So, this “one” place has no Reality.

Thus, all experienced in the three-dimensional world of place and time are just a projected reality and not Real.

Individual Experience: Role of Observation in Creating Reality

When the observational activity of the mind is put to rest completely, space and time, cease to exist. Space exists due to the coexistence of idea and time, in relation to the succession of ideas that occur in the mind.

When the mind serially processes one idea after another, time is born. When there is a consideration of the ideas as they occur in time, Space comes into our experience.

OBSERVATION AND REALITY RELATION

Hence, there is no other way to experience Time and Space.

When a succession of ideas, stop; time shall stop and when there is no time, there is no question of space. As coexistence and succession, they are ideas or concepts, the world is also a conglomeration of these varied ideas.

Hence, the world has no existence, independent of the mind.

Individual Experience: Individual Mind And Creation

The working of the universe works at two levels.

1. Objective: They are thoughts of an individual, due to their various limitations.

2. Subjective: It is the Will of the Universal Being, Brahman, due to its vastness and infinity.

Millions of individual worlds, interwoven together create a complex mesh.

One world is aware of the other world and so they coexist. However, everyone is locked in their own individual world, managed by the processes of their individualized minds. Hence it becomes conclusive that…

The world which exists outside the purview of a particular set of thought processes cannot be assumed to exist. Because they do not, as a matter of Truth.

Individual Experience: Every Person is Unique

A conglomeration of the worlds will indicate that there are infinite worlds moving and rearranging themselves in an infinite ambit. But the worlds, though they are all made up of the same stuff as the mind, differ in their makeup and contents.

Some of them may be almost similar in nature.

But, mostly they differ completely and may be inhabited by different kinds of individuals who cannot be even adequately imagined by our present state of mind.

The evolution of the world goes on due to the impetus it has received from the mind of Brahman.

IMAGINATION AND THE PROCESS OF CREATION IN THE MIND

Also, the process of creation continues even in the individuals, although in a misplaced and distorted manner, due to the mind. The individual creation is quite at a tangent from the original Will of the Creator.

These imaginations, in the myriads of worlds projected by the millions of individual minds, give rise to a physical world. Hence, the physical world is much distorted but in perfect alignment with the worlds imagined in the hearts of men.

If one were to enter Reality, one has to first remove the false conceptions that have been triggered through instinctive impulses of the individual minds. Only powerful spiritual practices following the Vedic Scriptures can help us do this.

The Yoga Vasistha is one of them that educates the common man about the science behind universal and individual creation.
