Suryanarayana: A Great Form of the Supreme

SURYANARAYANA

Why should you Please Lord Suryanarayana?

According to many Puranic Anecdotes of Surya Devata, He is none other than a part and parcel of Lord Narayana. He is the repository of Knowledge. He is the Lord of Wisdom.

Praying to him can not only yield material benefits, but can also grant spiritual progress. It can clear all hurdles that one might otherwise face on the spiritual path.

There are a lot of advantages of worshipping Lord Surya. Right from eradicating health related issues to sharpening one’s intelligence, Surya Mantras have proven to be the most potent of all mantras.

He is hailed in the scriptures.

WORSHIPPING LORD SURYA

Let us look at the significance of Surya Devata. It is a subtle, important concept for those who want to derive maximum out of their lives, both in material as well as spiritual terms.

Symbolic Meaning of Suryanarayana

Even if the body, senses or the mind perish, leaving behind no trace, the Atma stays undisturbed. The Atma (self) goes unabatedly in its journey.

Even when an individual sleeps deeply, Atma is wide awake. Brahman can be intelligently arrived at through deeply observing the forces of nature.

SURYANARAYANA

The Devatas are the presiding deities of the various forces dominant nature.

Vayu Devata is the chief of all energies of wind that operate at subtle levels within and without the body. Similarly, the Sun God or Suryanarayana is the presiding deity of all the visible and invisible light forces within and without the body.

Brahman can only be concurred upon via the Devatas.

Just like, when the body sleeps the Atman is ever awake, when there is night in one part of the world, the other end of Earth experiences day. Thus, the Sun never sleeps because he is illuminating either parts of the world.

He is a symbolic representation of Jnana which stands for- imperishable, evergreen Knowledge of Aatma.

Thus, worshipping Lord Suryanarayana can accelerate your spiritual progress.

Ramanuja Explains: Role of Suryanarayana in our Liberation

The Vedas proclaim that the Sun rays are the vehicle to enter the Abode of the Lord. The suitable candidate for liberation mounts the rays of the Sun at the time of death.

The depth of this statement can be understood in one of the discussions that took place between Sri Ramanuja and his disciple.

An innocent disciple of Sri Ramanujacharya enquired: “Swami, what happens if a devotee happens to die at midnight where there is no trace of Surya Bhagawan.”

SRI RAMANUJACHARYA ANSWERS A DISCIPLE

To this, Ramanuja answered: “Because we do not see the sun with our material eyes, does not mean that sun rays are absent. The subtle rays of the sun are present 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year. The sun’s visibility is just from the point of view of material consciousness.

The spirit can access the Sun and its rays at any time. If the Sun were not present at night, all life would be immediately uprooted.

It is the subtle rays of the sun that maintains life even at night.” This discussion puts an end to all doubts from a devotee’s mind.

The time of death is not important for a sincere Bhakta and a Jnani.

Surya Devata to complete the Vedic ritual of transiting from the material to the spiritual plane shall assist in His subtle for itself. He is ever-available for the devotees of Bhagawan.

Purva and Uttara Bhaga of Vedas

PARTS OF VEDAS

The Purva Bhaga: They focus on the body and bodily duties that a man should focus to purify his thoughts and actions.

The Uttara Bhaga: It represents Vedanta or Upanishads and focuses on the Self.

The Vedanta ends with Upasana or Bhakti.

It is here that there is focus on the path to the Supreme Abode in line with what Sri Ramanujacharya speaks about the Archiradi Margam.

Sri Ramanuja has advised all neither to bypass the Vedas relating to the body (As applicable in Kaliyuga) nor the contemplation on the Supreme as promulgated by Vedanta.
