Lord Dattatreya and Siddha Mangala Stotram

The Siddha Mangala Stotram has a fine backdrop.  Sripada Sri Vallabha is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. Lord Dattatreya is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Thus Sripada Vallabha is an incarnation of the Supreme Being. Sripada was born in the South Indian State of Andhra Pradesh in a place known as Pithapuram. His father was Appala Raja Sharma, while his mother was Sumathi. Each stanza of the Siddha Mangala Stotram refers to the various incidents of the life of this incarnation.

What is Bhakti?

They say that to develop a deep love for someone, you should have enough information about that individual. Based on that information, one should know the person. When the understanding of a person matures, you start loving the person. Then anything related to such a beloved individual will invoke higher emotions towards that individual.

When that higher emotion is directed towards the Supreme, it becomes Bhakti. Please watch our video  How is Bhakti Greater than other forms of Yoga? | Why is Bhakti unpopular in Kali Yuga? to understand the greatness of Bhakti.

A Short Life-sketch of Sri Vallabha

Once, the two scholars, namely the maternal grandmother of Sripada and her brother, went to Ainavilli, a remote area in Godavari Mandal. There they conducted a yagna where they actually made Lord Ganapati appear.

This was during the time of Poornahuti, which was witnessed by all the people who attended the yagna. Poornahuti refers to the final offering made to a deity during a yagna. Lord Ganapati had received the Poornahuti with his trunk. To the astonishment of all the people, Lord Ganapathy disclosed that he shall take birth as Sripada Vallabha on Ganesh Chaturthi.

Later, both scholars went to Pithapuram village and settled there. Thus the divinity of Sripada Vallabha was well-established even before his birth.  Sripada Sri Vallabha took sannyasa at the age of 16 and remained in his earthly form only till the age of 30. Sripada Vallabha spent his sannyasa mostly on pilgrimages. During his lifetime, he visited Kashi, Badrikashram, Gokarna, Srisailam, and Kuravapuram, to name a few.

SRISAILAM

Sripada Vallabha remained mostly in Kuravapuram. The Avatara, known as Sripada Vallabha, is believed to be a Chiranjeevi or an immortal. He still remains on the earthly plane, although invisible.

The Siddha Mangala is similar to the Sri Hanuman Chalisa

It is said that regular chanters of the Siddha Mangala Stotram can connect with him, just as the reciters of the Hanuman Chalisa can connect with Sri Hanumanji Maharaj.

Sri Hanumanji Maharaj is also considered to be a Chiranjeevi.  Thus, these two great deities are available to all on the earthly plane in an invisible form.  Talking about Hanumanji Maharaj, you will find our video Significance of Hanuman Eating Fruits In Ashok Vatika | Importance of taking Lord Hari’s Permission will be interesting to watch.

There are instances of some devotees who have got Darshan of Sripada Vallabha through the regular chanting of the Siddha Mangala Stotram.  Many believe that Sripada Vallabha took Jalasamadhi or relinquished his physical form in the river waters at Kuravapuram, Raichur District, Karnataka.

Sri Vallabha is always Present

Sripada Vallabha still exists in pure energy form. Thus the Siddha Mangala Stotram can be regarded as a Yantra, a Mantra that can raise one’s consciousness and connect with the Siddhas with the blessings of Siddha Mangala Stotram. There is an interesting story that people talk about in the South of India.

According to this story, a Brahmin called Vallabhesh vowed to go to Kuravapuram and feed 1,000 Brahmins. He would do so if he earned more than his usual profit in business. He did earn a profit, and to fulfill his vow, he traveled to Kuravapuram. On the way, he was attacked by bandits and was beheaded by them.

KURUVAPURAM

Suddenly, Sripada Vallabha appeared from nowhere and killed the bandits with his Trident.  Out of the many bandits, one of them extolled Sripada Vallabha as Lord Shiva. That bandit was spared. Later, Sripada Vallabha revived the slain Brahmin.

Thus, the Siddha Mangala Stotram is not only a Stotram of the deity called Datta Guru or Sripada Vallabha, but the repository of all the Siddhis and includes within its body the entire Siddha Loka or the perfected region which extends way beyond this earthly plane.
