Lotus bead Mala (Kamal gatta) is a brownish rosary consisting of 108 dried oval shaped lotus seeds- the 109th bead being the meru. The specialty of this mala is that we can chant the names of all deities on it, irrespective of whether one is a Shaiva, Vaishanava or Shakta. While the Tulsi mala demands dietary and lifestyle restrictions and cannot be used in Shiva worship, the Kamalgatta mala is more flexible in its rules.
