What is the Radha Chalisa
The Radha Chalisa is dedicated to Radha Rani or Srimati Radhika, the beloved of Sri Krishna.
The author of Radha Chalisa is unknown. It is written in a regional dialect from the Hindi heartland and consists of forty verses or Chaupais. The word Chalisa comes from the Hindi word ‘Chalees which means forty’. Thus Radha Chalisa has 40 verses in the praise of Srimati Radha.
Who is Sri Radha?
Srimati Radhika is the soul of Lord Krishna. The whole of Vraja chants Radha Nama and dances in joy. Instead of saying Radha Krishna- In Vraja, we say Radhe-Radhe while addressing someone. Hence the Radha nama is ingrained in the soil of Vraja Bhoomi. Before going into the benefits of chanting Radha Chalisa, I shall first speak about Srimati Radhika. The name Radha comes from the root word Aradhana which means to worship.
Sri Radha and Her Connection With Sri Krishna
Srimati Radhika is also called Gaurangi as she has a golden complexion. She is more compassionate than Lord Krishna being the universal mother.
Her parents are Vrishabhanu and Kirtida. Lord Krishna, is hard to attain. Yet, He finds Himself fortunate serving the lotus feet of Kishori ji. This is what the Brajavasis call Sri Radha with love. Her devotion to Shri Krishna is extremely sublime. Normally people chase Lord Krishna.
How is Lord Chaitanya connected to Srimati Radhika
But here, Krishna pursues Radha, for not even 0.01% percent of the devotee world feels the love that she has for Him. In order to taste that ecstasy, Lord Krishna incarnated as Sriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with the heart and complexion of Srimati Radhika. In this incarnation, He became a devotee and exhibited symptoms of divine love for Sri Krishna.
Here Sri Krishna attained the heart of Sri Radha and searched for himself, tasting the divine mellows of Srimati Radhika’s love. I have already made a video on Chaitanya Mahaprabhu titled Who Are Lord Gauranga and Lord Nityananda.

The Mood of Srimati Radhika
Sri Radha even has the privilege of showing ‘Maana’ or spiritual anger towards Lord Krishna. When upset with Krishna, she shuts the door at His face, confines Herself in a dark room, and refuses to speak to Him. Indeed, she is not even fearful of losing Krishna, because she knows that Sri Krishna is Hers and nothing can separate them.
Sri Radha and Sri Krishna are Fully Spiritual and are not of this world
It is sad to see that people compare mundane love and lust to the exalted love o Sri Radha and Krishna. It is sad that in the land of Bharat, we have lost the emotion of true Love that is equivalent to Srimati Seeta, Sri Radha, Sri Rama, and Sri Krishna.
It is high time we understand selfless love through sadhana and ending our desires of attaining this ever-changing material world.
Madhurya Bhava of Srimati Radha
Radharani knows that the Lord is bound to return to Her because Sri Krishna has no meaning without Sri Radha. At such times, Lord Krishna feels delighted to pacify her with the help of her Sakhis, love-stricken as He is, by her devotion and surrender. Srimati Radhika is the personification of Madhurya Bhava. Based on Lord Krishna’s mood she becomes a caring mother, a sought-after beloved, an understanding friend, and a faithful servitor.
All these moods are present in Her alone.
It is Radharani alone who knows the secret of winning Krishna’s heart. Hence many Sampradaya systems aim at becoming the Sahacharis of Radharani or becoming her personal attendants, as she is more benign and easy to please when compared to Sri Krishna. Love is an aspect of the female energy, who else other than Sri Seeta, Sri Radha, or Sri Parvati who are a personification of that energy is capable of distributing such Love?
Sri Radha and Krishna are Free of any trace of Mundanity
Sri Radha is known for her beauty, intelligence, and devotion. Know that the love between Lord Krishna and Radharani is not sexual even in the wildest of dreams. It is spiritual in nature, unknown to non-siddhas.
Benefits of Reading Radha Chalisa
Those who recite the Radha Chalisa with faith, taste spiritual ecstasy.
At the successful fruition of Sadhana and by the grace of Radharani, one may experience Satvika Bhava or bodily transformations that result from spiritual emotion.
They are eight in number.
- Sthamba: Numbness
- Sveda: Perspiration
- Romancha: The Standing of Hair due to ecstasy
- Svarabheda: Voice change
- Vepathu: Trembling
- Vaivarnya: Facial color change
- Asru: Weeping and
- Pralaya: Fainting
Srimati Radha and the Land of Vrindavan
One shall even become fortunate to attain the Land of Vrindavan, for performing higher sadhana and getting direct access to the spiritual realm. Unlike other forms of goddesses, Srimati Radhika is associated with the spiritual world. However, she also grants material benefits to an eligible seeker. She protects the chanter from danger by averting accidents and untimely death.

Rules for Chanting Radha Naam
Keep away from non-vegetarian food. It is wrong to smoke or drink alcohol while chanting the Radha Chalisa. Avoid Gambling of any sort which includes investing in shares or any type of speculative money market. A sattvic lifestyle is compulsory to draw the grace of Srimati Radharani.
