Durga Devi Beeja Mantra: Powerful Mantra

The Powerful Durga Devi Mantra

An individual can invoke Devi Durga through the Om Dum Durgayei Mantra. Durga Devi is the consort of Lord Shiva and the mother of Ganesha and Karthikeya.

The Eight handed form is a fair depiction of Durga Devi. Her various paraphernalia depict qualities such as righteousness, knowledge, robust character, surrender, spiritual awakening, the three modes of nature and forgiveness. Navratri is a festival dedicated to the goddess.

The Om Dum Durgayei Namaha mantra is powerful because of the Beeja mantra Dum.

Some Benefits of the Dum Durgayei Mantra

Chanting this mantra has many benefits. But before chanting this mantra, one should take initiation of this mantra from a qualified Guru, because this mantra has the Beejakshara “Dum”. Like a protective mother, Devi shields her devotees when they are in a crisis. If you are surrounded by unfavourable people, she alters the external conditions. If you lack courage to face a situation, she grants fearlessness.

The goddess rides a tiger and also wields weapons such as disc, sword, trident and mace. A unique combination indeed.

Symbolism of the Durga Devi Mantra

Holding weapons may seem aggressive. However, sitting on the tiger symbolizes suppression of violent tendencies since the tiger is a carnivorous animal. This means that the goddess wields weapons wisely, only for protecting Dharma. She is like death for the untruthful and a loving mother for a Sanatani.

However, the only condition is that the chanting should be Niswarth or Selfless.

Insight into the Devi Mantra

Dum-Dum is the Beeja mantra of Durga Devi.

Durgayei- She is Durga because she slew the demon named Durg. Durg also means fort. This fort represents the walls of our notions, beliefs and ideologies. We weave our own thought world and feel secure within its fort. This is the greatest obstacle in spiritual growth. When a sapling grows we expose it to the sky. Building a wall over it stunts its growth.

Similarly, the boundaries of our preconceived notions, restrict our freedom. Durga literally means the one who conquers this fort and breaks it. Without the grace of Durga Devi, it is impossible to transcend Samsara. Her benign glance is sufficient for both material and spiritual wellbeing. Apart from Shaktism, even Vaishnavas revere Durga Devi as Mahamaya.

She is the empress of this material world. Without her sanction, not even a leaf can move.

The Intention Behind the Mantra gives Results
